A primer
Sans (the Skeleton) is from Undertale, an indie RPG.
Sans is lazy, loves puns and pranks, and is kind of terrifying to actually face in battle, as evidenced by his boss battle in the No Mercy route. He also is aware of multiple timelines in canon, and is also aware of multiple versions of himself.
For the most part, he's pretty chill. I play Sans with knowledge of previous timelines - he knows his brother's died before, he knows Frisk (or, in actuality, Chara, though Sans doesn't know that part) is capable of murder, and he knows that Flowey is Bad Fucking News. This Sans is post-Pacifist ending, with practically a million resets to get to that point.
I headcanon Gaster was someone Sans deeply respected and looked up to. The game sort of implies Sans used to do research with Gaster (and Alphys?) but that something - possibly the Core incident - made Sans walk away from it all. Since the game has confirmed that items persist through timelines, I also headcanon that Sans leaves notes for himself to get himself up to speed.
